Devlog #1 - Paper to Prototype

After weeks of waiting we finally have the first devlog for my latest project, Spades Budokai. For the uninitiated, Spades Budokai combines turned based combat with the playing card game, Spades. I've been working on this since the beginning of the year and I am excited to share some of it with you.

When it was still Untitled Card RPG...They grow up so fast. *sniffle*

I spent the beginning of the year working out the design and building it in Godot, but I wasn't satisfied with my first result. I scrapped it and started to work on a new design which I tested on pen and paper. I liked what I had so I decided to jump back into Godot and start on my prototype.

Back in my day we played our games on paper!

Last week was mostly spent setting up my project and making sure it was structured well, however, I did hit a small snag with my card menu. The menu wouldn't appear after it had been created and destroyed, but I fixed it quickly after realizing it was problem with how I was using the yield function. After that I added enough logic so that players could play cards and win books. If you ask me, I'd say this week was pretty damn successful.

Super Spades Budokai in all its naked glory!

It feels good to be making progress and it feels even better to get this devlog finished. It's pretty difficult to get my thoughts together and type these out, but practice makes prefect. If you have any comments, questions, or concerns don't hesitate to reach out. I promise I'm a nice guy. Now it's time for me to get back to work so with that I will see you on the next devlog.
